Fashion Project 1 (PORTFOLIO)
TOPIC: "ORGANIC GEOMETRY"
IN THIS PROJECT, AS A FASHION STUDENT, I WAS EXPECTED TO MAKE A FUSION OF ARCHITECTURE AND FASHION. "STRONG SILHOUETTE ARE ACHIEVED WITH A PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON STRUCTURE, SHAPE AND FORM".
THE REQUIREMENT IS TO INTERPRETE THE CONCEPT OF ORGANIC GEOMETRY WHERE SHAPES AND FORMS FOUND IN CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE INTO 3 EVENING WEAR LOOKS. "AN EXPERIMENTAL FLOWING SILHOUETTES AND ASYMMETRICAL SHAPES AS WELL AS A MIXTURE OF SOFT, MEDIUM AND STUCTURED HEAVY WEIGHT OF FABRICS CHARACTERISTIC."
TASK 1: RESEARCH AND DESIGN CONSTRUCTION
What is Architecture?(According to Brittanica)
Architecture, the art and technique of designing and building, as distinguished from the skills associated with construction. The practice of architecture is employed to fulfill both practical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends.
For this project, I was required to choose a specific type of contemporary building where which I was further directed on which topic I should be relating my subject matter to. As such, after a deep dive into the Architecture World, I stumbled across a few architects who caught my attention namely, Frank Gehry, Oscar Niemeyer, Eero Saarinen and the list goes on...
Contemporary style in architecture is one of the many styles that are adopted by architect where which they will develop their Design Language. Eventually, I stumbled across an Architect who caught my attention, namely Frank Gehry.
For the subject matter I wanted to focus on waves. Since the project is based on organic geometry, I wanted to keep my subject very organic, which will eventually reflect both my inspiration and the building that I will be working on. I eventually chose to work on a specific type of wave called Seiche waves.
Seiche waves is a standing wave in which the largest vertical oscillations are at each end of a body of water with very small oscillations at the center point of the wave.
The reason why I chose this simple element as my subject matter is because I really wanted to show a direct representation of my subject matter, and as a designer I wanted the visual of my garment to click in the mind of people who is going to look at my garment.
